19 October 2021, META-Project's HeyTown Art Center is announced as the winner of DFA Design for Asia Awards 2021, one of Asia’s most prestigious design awards honouring design projects globally that have influenced and meaningful impact in Asia.
The DFA Design for Asia Awards celebrates design excellence and acknowledging outstanding designs with Asian perspectives. Launched in 2003, the DFA Design for Asia Awards has been a stage upon which design talents and corporations can showcase their design projects internationally.

On the morning of October 10, 2021, the exhibition "The Creation of Intentional Craftsmanship", co-organized by the School of Architecture of Tianjin University and the Urban Environment Design (UED) magazine, was officially launched at the China Millennium Forum in Beijing. The exhibition showcases the research and thinking of the School of Architecture of Tianjin University on the hot issues of architecture in recent years. The exhibition presents a series of reflective discussions and practices in the areas of historical tracing, design research and teaching practice. The theme of the exhibition is "Creation by the Artisan", with "Research on the Great Wall", "Reconstruction of Tradition", "Rural Creation", "Intelligent Construction", and "The Great Wall". The exhibition presents a series of teaching and research results of the architecture students of Tianda University in five sections: "Great Wall Research", "Traditional Reconstruction", "Rural Construction", "Intelligent Construction", and "Teaching Experiment".
Among them, META exhibited in the "Teaching Experiment" section with the theme of "URBAN WILDERNESS · JIGSAW FOR SYMBIOSIS", showing some of the results of Wang Shuo's professional teaching in the fall semester of 2020-2021 at the School of Architecture of Tianjin University.

The A+Awards announced the final list of 2021 winners on July 7, and META-Project's HeyTown Art Center was awarded the Jury Winner for the 2021 Architizer A+Awards Metal Award.
Previously, META’s another project Stage of Forest won the Jury Winner at the 2018 Architizer A+Awards Wood category. The A+Awards are special awards for basic materials in architecture, including brick, concrete, glass, metal, wood, stone, etc., with an emphasis on the interplay between the building and its surroundings. The A+Awards recognize the practical use of these essential materials and their innovative character.

Recently, 2020 A&D Awards issued the winner list, and META-Project’s new work HeyTown Art Center won the gold award of Best Cultural category.
For 17 years, the A&D Awards have set the benchmark for excellence in architecture and interior design and are respected as the most prestigious awards within this sector in the region.This year, A&D Awards 2020 brings the best of the A&D Trophy Awards and A&D China Awards together into one streamlined awards program.
Comments by the Jury:The HeyTown Art Center is part of an ambitious project to regenerate a declining industrial zone, not far from Beijing’s CBD, by transforming the area into a funky precinct for exhibitions, cultural events, performing arts and festivities. Overlooking an elevated railway, the centre’s exterior is a nod to its past and future, a combination of traditional red brick and semi-reflective aluminium cladding which captures the ever-changing light. It is the centre piece of an emerging cultural hub.

This column is aimed to be an exclusive interview program about architecture. The famous architects as Zhang Yonghe, Ma Yansong and Shuhei Aoyama have been invited to explore the "fun of architecture" through their life experience. In the program, Wang Shuo talked about how to think about the relationship between human and architecture as an architect, and how to communicate with the occupants.

Wang Shuo brings project Fun Palace to Shenzhen Creative Week 2020

Shenzhen Creative Week 2020 exhibited in Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition Center from August 20 to 23 this year. Wang Shuo was once again invited to participate in the exhibition with the project "fun Palace",which responds to how to activate the base in an old industrial plant- when the scale of the building expands, the following problem is how to let more people experience and even share the precise links in high-resolution and multi perception.
In addition, Wang Shuo also delivered a speech of "from industrial plant to co-living/culture-art complex" at the design forum to explorer the response to the key problems in the process of urban renewal of META-Project.

Recently,Wang Shuo had a conversation with the American correspondent VLADIMIR BELOGOLOVSKY, who is the founder of the New York-based non-profit Curatorial Project and has written nine books, including New York: Architectural Guide (DOM, 2019), Conversations with Architects in the Age of Celebrity (DOM, 2015) and so on. Since 2002, BELOGOLOVSKY interviewed over 300 architects. These intimate conversations are featured in the curator’s ongoing site-specific installations made up of voice recordings and thought- provoking quotes.
In the conversation, Wang Shuo mentioned :”I would compare what we do to a prism, meaning information comes in, then it is reflected, reexamined, reorganized, and finally, projected and augmented. We use trial and error methods, like a hypothesis. In other words, we want to be like a prism rather than a mirror. ”

Wang Shuo to Join the Super Nova Jury at WCM Program

Mr. Wang Shuo, Principle of META-Project,was invited to join the jury panel of Spring World Campus Masters Selective Graduation Design Program (short for "WCM Program”) ,which is lunched by the Young Bird Plan. WCM Program is committed to recognizing the fresh blood of contemporary design through evaluating graduation designs from global young designers in different regions and cultures.
The Jury panel includes Big Name Jury, Super Nova Jury and Professional Representatives. They will evaluate works, based on their foresight and response to current and future challenges. Wang Shuo was invited to join the Super Nove Jury in spring quarter and give professional judgement.
The other Super Nova jury includeed Jamie Wallace, founding director of WallaceLiu; Ana Milena Hernández, founder and creative director of Masquespacio; Jeroen Dellensen, winner of the IIDA Awards 2019; Bruce Ramus, artistic director and founder of Ramus.

2019 AIA Shanghai Design Awards' Annual Banquet,organized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) was held at W Hotel, on the evening of December 14, 2019.
Wang Shuo was invited to attend the banquet, and META-Project's work Stage of Forest won the Architecture Citation Award. The program of AIA Awards celebrates new architecture in China, encourages important values and perspectives. Receiving this award shows the jury's recognition of META-Project's architectural style and ideas.
More than 170 works were received this year. The winning Awards were judged by an international jury comprised of leading figures from around the world, including a unique mixture of mainland and international architects, critics, academics, and theorists. 16 winning projects were annunced at the banquet, including SOM Shanghai Jinmao Tower, Long Museum West Bund of Atelier Deshau, GAD line + 's Tea House, etc.

The 2019 Shanghai Urban Space Art Season (SUSAS) was held in Yangpu Binjiang on September 29. House T exhibited in the Planning Architecture section of this exhibition (4F "Vitality" booth of Maoma Warehouse). This exhibition presents the latest waterfront studies and practices of eight Chinese young architects. As a design force that is gradually maturing, young architects demonstrate diverse and profound ideas and creative abilities due to their different educational backgrounds and growth experiences. Faced with the eternal topic of people and water, they have given new responses for the present period and explored a variety of possibilities for the future.
House T, located in a prime position within steps to the beach, this site not only takes in sweeping view of the sea without any obstruction. we re-create a new spatial experience that flows “through” the building. which engages people with the surrounding of this prime site as one moves through the house, providing a sense of the entire natural/communal environment in incidental moments.

The 2018 winners of IAA(International Architecture Awards) have been announced. "New Youth Commune" of META-Project wins the Mixed Use Buildings Award and will participate in "The City and The World" Exhibition in October in Athens.
IAA, founded in 2004, was the largest and broadest architecture award in the world, aiming to honor projects like higher buildings, commercial buildings, urban planning, residence and real estate prominent in designing, constructing and planning. An almanac about these projects is annually published.

New Youth Commune won the 12th International Architecture Award ( IAA Awards) in the Housing and Apartment category. More than 380 entries among 31 countries were received this year and 100 cutting-edge new works of architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture were selected for their design excellence.
IAA Awards was established in 2005, the award is regarded as a symbol of excellence internationally and represents the best global architectural practice. “In 2018, the finalists of 380 projects showed the investment power and return on high-quality construction. It perfectly illustrates how well-designed buildings are worth the money and can exceed the expectations of the communities they serve”,said Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, director of the Chicago Museum.

The 16th Venice Biennale China City Pavilion "Across Chinese Cities- The Community" was opened in Venice on May 26, 2018. Promoted by Beijing Design Week and curated by Beatrice Leanza (The Global School) and Michele Brunello (DONTSTOP Architettura), the exhibition presents a selection of case studies from urban as well as rural Chinese contexts based on integrated planning, and therefore on reconciliation, on policy based and community based approaches to organisation with the aims of inclusivity, empowerment and collective creativity.

On October 15, 2017, the curtain of Shanghai Urban Space Art Season officially rises in the 80,000,000 kg silos of Min Sheng Dock. The exhibition "thisCONNECTION-Sharing a Future Public Space" is co-curated by the famous Italian achitecture designer, Stefano Boeri, and Xiangning Li, the professor of Architecture and City Planning School of Tongji University, and Ningzhen Fang, the famous Chinese-Japanese artist. Water Tower Renovation won WAN Small Space Award

March 8th,2016 - WAN AWARDS announced META-Project’s Water Tower Pavilion project as the winner of ”Small Spaces Award” (Permanent). Previously, the project had been exhibited in 2014 Venice Biennale, and Shanghai West Bund Biennale 2013.
Attracting wide spread attention from the public, META-Project adaptively renovated the water tower in an attempt to engage community life. The water tower is re-interpreted and transformed into a new type of‘ public folly’ - on the outside it forms an attractive intervention in the urban landscape, and on the inside it offers a space for public activities for the nearby communities. It invites people to engage and rethink the co-existence of history and contemporary reality.

[META-Evolution] project was invited to participate Design Shanghai 2013.
The project for the exhibition contains 2 parts: The first part, [WILD BEIJING] focuses on the street commerce in the micro system of the urban fringe in Beijing. [META:HUTONGS], the second part of the exhibition, is intended to reveal the unique quality of the urban emergence, that have grown out from the bottom of the alleyways and inside of the courtyard houses, by the individual people in a collective and constant effort.

Wang Shuo is invited to be the External Reviewer at Chinese University of Hong Kong’s 2010 semester. Each year CUHK architecture school appoints 3 Studio External Reviewers, from senior members of the profession, will be members of the jury group for the entire school work.
The Studio External Reviewers are appointed in order to assist and advise the School in the critical evaluation of the design program, and the establishment of common standards for the assessment of studio work. The work to be reviewed comprises the studio projects of all three years of the BSSc (Architectural Studies) and the two years of Master of Architecture Programs.

V2_ organized an exhibition and a series of presentations by Dutch and Chinese artists, curators, architects combined with international guests, all of which have been involved in collaborative projects. These presentations took place every Wednesday and Friday in the MK Gallery in Rotterdam.
Next to the 3rd I project, V2_ presented the several continuous installations and screenings at MK Gallery. V2_ also hosted a special China program at MK Gallery during the exhibition with presentations on Wednesday and Friday. During this program, Wang Shuo delivered a speech on Chinese Urbanism.

The global financial crisis has caused a massive disruption of rampant urban growth. Many issues like the connectivity, energy and environmental suddenly are forced to be integrated in any vision for the future of our cities.

Wang Shuo gave a lecture in Tongji University, talking about the "Time Scale in Local Construction –From the Country to Tibet". Followed by a forum discussion with Xie yingjun, Liuxiaodu, Yuan Feng, Liu jiakun ,Edward Ng and Li Xiangning.
The lecture and forum is part of a series named "Germany and china, moving forward together - Urban Academy, Germany-Chinese Forum on sustainable development" co-organized by Tongji University and the Culture and Education Section of the German Consulate General, which has function as Goethe-Institution.
