Water Tower Renovation Exhibits at Contemporary Architecture Exhibition in Harvard University

META-Project‘s Water Tower Pavillon was invited to join the exhibition Towards a Critical Pragmatism: Contemporary Architecture in China curated by Li Xiangning, deputy dean of Tongji University College of Architecture and Urban Planning. Open in the main gallery of Gund Hall at Harvard GSD from September 13th to October 24th, the exhibition aims to encourage further conversation about the present and future state of China’s architecture culture and highlights several buildings in five thematic categories—cultural, regeneration, digital, rural, and residential—and showcases the 60 architects’ commitment to conceptual criticality and quality of production.

Water Tower Renovation won WAN Small Space Award

March 8th,2016 - WAN AWARDS announced META-Project’s Water Tower Pavilion project as the winner of ”Small Spaces Award” (Permanent). Previously, the project had been exhibited in 2014 Venice Biennale, and Shanghai West Bund Biennale 2013.
Attracting wide spread attention from the public, META-Project adaptively renovated the water tower in an attempt to engage community life. The water tower is re-interpreted and transformed into a new type of‘ public folly’ - on the outside it forms an attractive intervention in the urban landscape, and on the inside it offers a space for public activities for the nearby communities. It invites people to engage and rethink the co-existence of history and contemporary reality.
